No one cares if we can read
We're products, part of the machine.
The school system failed deliberately
Go straight from here to the factory.
From the cradle to the grave
Disposable parts of the machine.
Educate ourselves!!
Blinded by tradition to follow in the footsteps
Of older generations, force-fed ignorance to stay in line
'Cause knowledge is power.
Educate ourselves!
**Footnote
I grew up in a small town were everyone had a safe future in the big slaughterhouse/factory. Somehow, I can't help thinking that the local authorities couldn't care less about the increasing amount of kids finishing elementary school wihtout the proper skills of general linguistics. I managed to pass through my first 12 years of school without reading a single book of fiction. Either no one noticed, or no one cared that I had quite severe reading disabilities. I'm not blaming the teachers, who had to give classes to about 30 or 40 students at once. I'm just convinced that it's not in the best interest of the wealthy leaders of any nation to give the common man or woman the chance for a higher education. Knowledge is power and the only way we can be a threat to the ruling class.
